Green Team America is presenting the second annual Project GLOW during the entire month of March 2011 and it promises to be even bigger than last year's very successful event. GLOW stands for Good Lighting for Our World, which is an important concept for our student, faculty and volunteers. The goal of this project is to exchange inefficient incandescent light bulbs for compact fluorescent bulbs.  CFLs use less energy, reducing the amount of coal burned, thus protecting human health and slowing the pace of climate change. Project GLOW aims to introduce energy efficiency to every household in the Houston area: CFLs the easiest way to do this and recognize an energy savings. This is especially important in areas where families may not be able to afford the initial cost of CFLs and need to lower their energy costs.

During Project GLOW, students will bring in old-fashioned light bulbs from home to school and they will receive energy-efficient CFLs in exchange...free! Our student members began with 12,000 CFLs last year and will continue with a broader impact this year.

GLOW is open to all of our 50+ high school’s clubs across several counties and we expect the majority to actively participate. Many schools have already indicated they will also take the CFLs into their local community (churches, retirement facilities, etc) The students are already well qualified to answer energy related questions and are eager to promote better energy resources.

Sponsors will be recognized in GLOW promotional materials and may provide additional corporate materials for use by the students. We suggest that sponsors provide CFLs, but will accept financial donations to the GTA purchase program. Sponsors promotional materials can also be distributed along with the CFLs.

As a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, GTA will provide documentation to qualify sponsors support as Tax Deductible.
